ASCE’s Committee on Younger Members selected Amanda Tanaka as the 2020 recipient of the Edmund Friedman Young Engineer Award for Professional Achievement.
The award is normally presented at the Society’s Annual Convention.
The 2020 Outstanding Young Civil Engineer – Private Sector award was presented to Amanda Tanaka at the ASCE Western Regional Younger Member Council on January 25, 2020 in San Francisco, California. This award recognizes a Younger Member who has demonstrated leadership potential in private sector civil engineering.

Amanda Tanaka was awarded the 2019 Young Engineer of the Year Award by the Hawaii Council of Engineering Societies on February 23, 2019. Amanda was nominated for her outstanding work as a champion for the advancement of the civil engineering profession, is an active member of ASCE where she has held several officer positions and committee chairs, and is active with other professional groups.
